After 11 Denton-area volleyball teams advanced to the playoffs, only Ponder, Argyle, Sanger, Aubrey and Calvary survived their first-round matchups to keep their seasons alive.
Those five schools will continue their postseason runs beginning Thursday night in the area round of the University Interscholastic League playoffs, while Calvary is set to compete in the regional round of the TAPPS Class 3A playoffs Saturday.
Ponder will take on Edgewood at 7 p.m. Thursday in Princeton, Argyle will play Snyder at 6:30 p.m. in Abilene, Aubrey will face Kennedale at 7 p.m. at Flower Mound Marcus, Sanger will play Carrollton Ranchview at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Lake Dallas and Calvary will play Midland Classical at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abilene Christian School.
All five teams swept their opponents in the first round, as Ponder advanced past Blue Ridge, Argyle defeated Brownwood, Calvary beat Dallas Lakehill Prep, Sanger knocked off Dallas Roosevelt and Aubrey cruised by Dallas Lincoln.
For the four teams competing in the UIL playoffs, a win means a berth in the regional quarterfinals next week. Calvary would advance to the state semifinals with a victory.
