North Texas women’s basketball assistant coach Bobby Brasel has left the program and will be announced as an assistant with another college in the next few days.
UNT coach Jalie Mitchell confirmed Brasel’s departure Friday afternoon.
Brasel served as UNT’s associate head coach for four seasons.
“He’s going to be an associate head coach at another program, somewhere he is more familiar that is also much more suited to his situation,” Mitchell said.
Brasel spent two seasons at Arkansas-Little Rock before joining Mitchell’s staff. He also spent seven seasons at South Alabama.
Brasel was an original member of Mitchell’s staff at UNT. The Mean Green had suffered through nine straight losing seasons before Mitchell arrived, including a 5-24 campaign in 2014-15.
The Mean Green immediately jumped to 11-19 in Mitchell’s first season and have improved their win total in each of Mitchell’s four seasons. UNT finished 18-16 last season and won three games in the Women’s Basketball Invitational, the first postseason wins beyond a conference tournament in program history.
“Coach Brasel did a lot for us and has been a big part of what we have accomplished,” Mitchell said. “I’m excited for him and his new opportunity.”
