WACO — North Texas split its doubleheader on Day 1 of the Getterman Classic with a 6-3 win against Lamar on Friday morning and a 7-3 loss to Grand Canyon University in the afternoon at Getterman Stadium on the campus of Baylor.

In the first game, the Mean Green offense put up six runs against Lamar’s pitching staff, paving the way for Stacey Underwood’s second win of the season.

Underwood tossed 6 1/3 innings in the win, limiting the Cardinals’ offense to three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Jessica Elder relieved her, tossing two-thirds of an inning to earn the save, the first of her career.

UNT had a late lead in the second game, too, but it was unable to hold on for a win.

With the score knotted at three in the sixth, GCU’s Laynee Gomez singled and advanced to third on a throwing error by Harley Perella and later scored the go-ahead run on an infield single to first by Madelyn Dowdle.

UNT’s Lauren Craine went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits with one strikeout and three walks, and Underwood (2-2) took the loss in relief.

Cameron 7, TWU 6

TWU 2, Cameron 1

Tori Bice directed Texas Woman’s University from the circle to their first Lone Star Conference win of 2017 in a 2-1 win against Cameron during game two of the series following a 7-6 loss to open up LSC play Friday at Pioneer Field.

In the first game, TWU took a 5-2 lead off a Nicole Parnell single as part of a three-run fifth inning, but Cameron battled back with four runs off a solo home run and a three- run double in the seventh to take the win.

Neither team scored through the first five innings of the second game before TWU broke through in the bottom of the sixth. Katy Stephens sent a shot down the left field line to score Nicole Nordie, and Tylia Sylestine sailed a hit past the left fielder that allowed Stephens to make it home to put the Pioneers up 2-0.

Cameron hit a solo home run to start the seventh but couldn’t muster another run to tie the game.
