The regular season came to a close Friday night and eight Denton-area teams secured spots in the playoffs, which are set to begin late next week.

The Lake Dallas boys and Argyle girls were the only area teams to finish as district champions, with the Falcons locking up the No. 1 seed out of District 8-5A and the Lady Eagles securing the No. 1 seed from District 7-4A.

Both teams went unbeaten through district play, and Lake Dallas will host Saginaw in the first round at 8 p.m. Thursday before Argyle plays Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis at 6 p.m. Friday at Keller ISD Stadium.

The Guyer girls finished as the No. 2 seed out of District 5-6A and will play Hebron at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hebron, while the Ryan girls were third in District 8-5A and will play Colleyville Heritage at 7 p.m. Thursday at Justin Northwest.

The Denton girls, who finished fourth in 8-5A, will host Grapevine at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Guyer boys secured their first playoff appearance since 2014 by finishing third in 5-6A, and the Wildcats will play Coppell at 6 p.m. Thursday at Lake Dallas. The Argyle boys, the No. 2 seed out of 7-4A, will play Diamond Hill-Jarvis at 8 p.m. Friday at Keller ISD Stadium.

The Braswell boys will compete as the No. 3 seed out of 8-5A and host Birdville at 7 p.m. Friday.

The winners of next week’s games will advance to the area round of the playoffs, set for April 1 and 2.
