After spending years as an assistant at Lake Dallas, Nathan Davis will finally have his opportunity to be a head coach. Davis was hired as the new girls soccer head coach Thursday afternoon, athletic director Scott Head confirmed.

Davis replaces former head coach Trina Hutsell, who managed the Lady Falcons for the past three years. Hutsell is leaving coaching to spend more time with her family.

In her three seasons at the helm, Hutsell’s teams failed to reach the postseason. Lake Dallas came up one game short in last spring’s playoff race.

“Coach Hutsell did a good job with the girls. It was a mutual thing where she found a job in Frisco,” Head said. “I always tell my coaches, ‘Family first’, so I was all for it.”

With now four changes at head coach over the summer, Lake Dallas is looking at a somewhat different athletic program. There will be new head coaches in girls soccer, girls basketball, volleyball and baseball in the 2019-20 school year.

“You hate to lose your coaches because you develop friendships, but if they want to go and look for greener pastures then best of luck to them,” Head said. “I’m really excited about our hires this year. I think people are going to be surprised with what we’re going to do.”

Davis had been coaching primarily boys soccer and football over the past 12 years before switching to serve as an assistant for Hutsell last season. Davis will also continue to assist Michael Young and the Falcons’ football team moving forward.

Looking ahead to the 2020 campaign, Davis will have a handful of quality returners in place to help build the foundation for the program he wants in the future. Returning impact players include senior goalkeeper Sydney Frazier, as well as seniors Karina Depaoli and Taylor Varin.

“He can take this team to another level,” Head said. “I think that highly of what he can do. [Boys soccer] coach [Brandon] Martin knows Nathan can do the job, and I like giving people opportunities who have paid their dues. I think one of our goals is to make the playoffs this year and I think we have the talent in our girls program to do some stuff.”
