Peyton Bowen scored two touchdowns and Ivan Pena kicked two extra points as the eighth-grade Crownover A-team Cowboys scored a 16-14 victory over the Harpool Longhorns to claim their second straight district championship Tuesday night.

Bowen scored on runs of 8 and 12 yards and with Pena’s kicks formed the margin Crownover needed to claim victory and finish the season with a 9-0 record.

Sutton Lee and Caleb Cowan also were standouts for the Cowboys.

McMath ‘A’ 30, Calhoun 6

Sebastian Berlinga rushed for two touchdowns and Tristian Strange threw for two TDs to lead the McMath Tigers over Calhoun.

Berlinga scored on runs of 3 and 37 yards, while Strange connected with Jonathan Weaver on a 64-yard scoring play and later hit Chucky Holbert with a 16-yard TD. Jonathan Weaver scored for McMath (1-7-1) on a 9-yard run.

On defense, Strange had three tackles and a pass breakup, Berlinga had two tackles and two pass deflections, Weaver had four tackles, two for losses, Holbert had an interception and Bryce Ashbaugh had two tackles.

Rodriguez ‘A’ 22, Navo 8

Keegan Byrd threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score to lead the Rodriguez Vipers (4-5) to a season-ending victory over Navo.

Byrd connected with Bryson Cornelious on a 50-yard scoring pass and later hit Jason Smith with a 15-yard touchdown pass before he closed the scoring with a 4-yard TD run.

Byrd, Jason Smith, Dylan Smith, Cornelious, Alex Jackson, Adrian Jackson and Ben Moore were singled out for their play.

Navo’s touchdown came on a 44-yard pass play from Wyatt Smith to Dyland Burnham, with Marc Ibarra adding to extra point.

Damajai Brown led the defensive effort for the Panthers (4-5) with eight tackles and three sacks, Blake Fann had seven tackles and one sack and Jaiden Rooks had an interception.

Rodriguez ‘B’ 6, Navo 0

Trenton Pesina’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Christian Sawyer was all the offense Rodriguez needed, and Dyllan Konvalin came up with a game-clinching interception as the Vipers (3-5) defeated Navo.

Nehemiah McCain led Navo (3-5) with 52 yards rushing on 10 carries, and Mathew Johnson had four receptions for 42 yards. James Burrows led the defense with five tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble.

Seventh grade

Harpool ‘A’ 16, Crownover 14

Eli Bowen led the Crownover Cowboys’ attack with a 23-yard reception from Pierson Rougeau and later scored on an 8-yard run in their loss to Harpool.

Aris Richards, Vyncent Burke, Sam George and Tristian Gonzalez played well defensively for Crownover (6-3), while Zach Baudo, Sam Burke, Isaiah Davis and Joseph Morales were standouts on the offensive line.

Navo ‘A’ 35, Rodriguez 0

Reymundo Izaguirre and Caleb Thomas each scored two touchdowns and quarterback Kaidon Hilliard passed for two as the Navo Panthers (3-7) defeated the Rodriguez Vipers.

Izaguirre scored on runs of 5 and 8 yards while Thomas had a 40-yard TD run and caught a 48-yard scoring pass from Hilliard, who also had a 72-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Williams.

Hilliard hit on 12 of 18 passes for 218 yards, Aiden Sumpter had three catches for 38 yards and Rajhzon Hill led the defense with two interceptions.

McMath ‘A’ 38, Calhoun 0

Six players scored for the McMath Tigers in their shutout victory over the Calhoun Cougars.

Milford Kamara got McMath (3-6) going with a 45-yard TD run. Hayden Gunter followed with a 32-yard TD pass from Josh Romero.

The McMath defense got involved when Romero returned an interception 15 yards for a score. Romero threw his second TD pass when he connected with Matthew Pena on a 5-yard play. Jason Neal dashed 23 yards for a TD before Trey Bates closed the scoring with a 71-yard touchdown run.

Romero, Pena, Trey Bates and Jayden Chavez led the Tiger defense with three tackles apiece.
