The A-team Crownover Cowboys raced out to an 18-point first-quarter lead en route to a 56-15 victory over the McMath Tigers on Thursday night in an eighth-grade season opener.

Connor Newton led the scoring for the Cowboys with 14 while Payton Bowen had 10, Blake Courtney and Ivan Pena each had nine and Alex Cedillo added eight.

Chuckee Holbert and Daniel Wen led the Tigers with five points apiece.

In the B-team game, Crownover held McMath scoreless in the first quarter and pulled away for a 43-13 triumph. Jonathan Weaver led the Tigers with 10 points.

Crownover’s “C” team rebounded from a slow start to roll to a 28-8 win over McMath. Colton Marshall led McMath with three points.

Harpool girls d. Strickland

Sophia Placke and K.K. Jones led the way as the Harpool A-team Lady Longhorns rolled to a 55-8 win over the Strickland Lady Vikings.

Placke had 15 points and pulled down five rebounds while Jones had 10 points, four assists and four steals. Raina Akbar, Maddy Lumsden and Summer Shuster each had eight points.

Abby Holder had 15 points and six steals to lead the Harpool “B” team to a 45-2 win over the Lady Vikings. Lilly Marker added eight points while Carys Stephenson and Abby LeBello each had five.

Jade Bello scored 10 points and Brandy DeLeon five as the Harpool “C” team opened with a 19-3 win over Strickland.

Crownover girls d. McMath

Crownover took two games from McMath, winning the A-team game 35-9 and the B-team contest 37-5.

Ayana Scott led McMath’s “A” team with seven rebounds, and Kendyle Hall was singled out for her outstanding overall play.

Rodriguez boys d. Calhoun

The Rodriguez A-team Vipers scored 35 consecutive points to open the game and rolled to a 67-10 win over Calhoun.

Kegan Boyd led the way for the Vipers with 15 points while Robert Jones had 12, Mark Nuby had seven and Dylan Smith finished with six.

In the B-team game, the Vipers outscored Calhoun 16-7 in a stretch over the second and third quarters to take a 38-11 win. Christian Sawyer and Mason Renquin led Rodriguez with 12 points apiece.

Rodriguez had to hold off a second-half rally by Calhoun in the C-team game to take a 17-13 win. Robert Hutchins led the Vipers with six points while Brandon Doty had four.

Seventh grade

Calhoun boys vs. Rodriguez

The Calhoun A-team Cougars jumped out to a commanding 27-9 first-half lead and coasted to a 39-23 win over the Rodriguez Vipers.

TaiShaun Livingston led the Cougars with 31 points while Maceo Bell and Kevin Rodriguez each had four.

Dylan Scott led the Vipers with seven points.

In the C-team game, Connor Brown scored six points to lead the Vipers to a 14-6 win.

Crownover boys d. McMath

Carter Eddy scored 20 points to lead the Crownover Cowboys to a 67-36 A-team victory over McMath.

Eli Bowen added 11 points while Matthew Carter had seven and Jayson Demcher and Logan McLaughlin each had six for the Cowboys.

Will McGee led McMath with eight while Trevor Chen and Blake Burgess had six apiece.

Crownover held off a second-half rally by McMath in the B-team game to record a 22-17 victory. Hunter Howe led the Cowboys in scoring with 16. Tre Bates paced the Tigers with nine.

Cole Hickey and Trevor Gorr each scored seven points as the C-team Cowboys rolled to a 32-3 win over McMath. Shelby Cox, Christian Patrick and Merrick DeReamer each had four points. Aaron Borges had two for McMath.

Crownover girls d. McMath

Crownover swept three games from McMath, winning the A-team game 33-17, the B-team contest 30-6 and the C-team game 26-3.

Katelyn Haley led the Lady Tigers’ “A” team with four points, Ti’mya Johnson added three and Ceci Marroquin and Annie Meador led the defensive effort.

Courtney King, Victoria Aviles and Hannah Cox each scored two points for McMath in the B-team game, and Hannah Leija had two points for the Lady Tigers and Leilani Woods added one in the C-team game.
