North Texas men's basketball coach Grant McCasland has promoted Chris Blakeley, who will serve as the program's director of scouting and analytics.
Blakeley is the grandson of former UNT men's coach Bill Blakeley and spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant with the Mean Green.
UNT announced the move Tuesday. Bill Blakeley was inducted into UNT's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.
"Chris exemplifies every characteristic we want to build our program around and has more than earned this promotion," McCasland said in a statement. "He's got a great basketball mind, has a tremendous work ethic and cares greatly about our team and university. We're very excited to keep him here with us to continue building a championship program."
Blakeley played at Abilene Christian and worked with the Texas Legends, the Mavericks' G League affiliate, before joining UNT's staff.
Bill Blakeley coached at UNT from 1975-83 and posted a 134-85 record. He ranks third in program history in wins behind Pete Shands and Johnny Jones.
