Sanger volleyball

Sanger’s Lindzi Thomas (11) spikes the ball to the Gainesville side for a point on Oct. 19. The Lady Indians face Kennedale on Monday evening.

After another long regular season, six Denton-area volleyball teams will finally begin their trek for a state championship this week.

Guyer, Argyle, Sanger, Krum, Aubrey and Pilot Point all qualified for the playoffs. Sanger and Argyle kick off their respective postseason runs on Monday while the rest will have to wait one more day to get underway.

On Monday, Sanger faces Kennedale at 7 p.m. at Carrollton R.L. Turner. Kennedale is currently ranked No. 10 in Class 4A in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll. Meanwhile, No. 24 Argyle takes on Benbrook in its first-round match. That showdown is slated for 7 p.m. at Keller Fossil Ridge.

Tuesday’s slate includes Class 6A Guyer taking on Hebron in a 6:30 p.m. game at Frisco Lebanon Trail. The Lady Wildcats are riding a nine-match winning streak and were the top seed in District 5-6A. Hebron came away with a win when these teams met earlier in the year.

In other playoff action, Aubrey will face Uplift Summit International Preparatory. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Lake Worth.

Meanwhile, Krum takes on No. 14 Benbrook at 7 p.m. at Haltom. Pilot Point faces Grandview at 7 p.m. at Fort Worth Castleberry.
