After notching its second win over a top-5 opponent in as many weeks, Guyer has risen to No. 4 in the latest Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Class 6A poll.
The Wildcats are coming off a 46-35 win over Humble Atascocita, which was ranked No. 4 last week. Grayson O’Bara hauled in nine catches for 164 yards and a touchdown in the victory, while quarterback Jackson Arnold threw for 337 yards and three scores.
Guyer is 4-0 overall this season, and the Wildcats will open District 5-6A play Friday on the road against McKinney.
Across town at Ryan, the Raiders retained their No. 1 spot atop the Class 5A Division I poll. Ryan routed Denton 55-28 last week and is 3-1 this year, with its lone loss coming against Guyer.
The Raiders will host undefeated Frisco Wakeland on Thursday night.
Argyle, meanwhile, survived a scare from Waco La Vega last week to remain the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A Division I.
The Eagles trailed the Pirates 14-10 in the fourth quarter, but Jaamael Felton’s 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown gave Argyle a 17-14 lead, which proved to be the difference.
Argyle moved to 4-0 with the victory. The Eagles are off this week before traveling to Melissa on Oct. 1 to open District 7-4A Division I play.
