Logan Diomede, who finished second individually last month at the Class 4A boys golf state tournament while leading Argyle to a silver medal in his final high school competition, is one of three current or former Eagles competing this weekend at the 110th Texas Amateur at Dallas Athletic Club.
Joining Diomede is freshman Gaven Lane, an Oklahoma State commit who played in the U.S. Amateur last summer. Alex Isakson, a 2016 graduate and two-time state champion now playing for Houston, rounds out the trio.
Argyle resident Marcus Jones is also listed as a participant.
Round 1 of the Texas Amateur tees off Thursday. The tournament runs through Sunday and is being played on DAC’s Jack Nicklaus-designed Blue Course for the first time in 16 years. It will be the seventh Texas Golf Association major championship played at DAC and the third Texas Amateur.
The tournament is a showcase of the state’s top amateurs.
Diomede, who will soon shift his focus to Abilene Christian will tee off at 9 a.m. Thursday. He is coming off a stellar showing at the state tournament, shooting a tournament-best 69 on Day 2 to bring Argyle back from an uncharacteristic slow start. He finished with a two-day score of 143.
Lane just wrapped up eighth grade at Argyle Middle School and begins his march at 7:50 a.m. Lane is one of the youngsters in the field, as he will turn 15 on June 16, but he is used to playing with older players and has several high-profile tournaments under his belt, including last year’s U.S. Amateur.
Among Lane’s accomplishments are a second-place finish at the Byron Nelson Junior Championship, a bronze medal at the AJGA Kansas Junior and an eighth-place finish at the Texas Junior Amateur.
Isakson was a three-time all-state selection in 2014, 2015, and 2016 and helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back state titles his junior and senior seasons. He went to McLennan out of high school before transferring to Houston after his two JUCO seasons. He will tee off Thursday at 1 p.m.
Jones won’t start his opening round until 2:10 p.m.
