Argyle resident Marcus Jones and a trio of current or former Argyle Eagles failed to make the cut at the 110th Texas Amateur at Dallas Athletic Club following a rough showing in Round 2 on Friday.
After shooting a first-round 72, Jones missed the cutoff by one stroke when he fired a 77 to finish with a two-day score of 5-over 149.
Close behind was Logan Diomede, who just wrapped up his senior year at Argyle. Diomede also shot a 77 on Friday to finish with a 6-over 150.
Alex Isakson, a 2016 Argyle graduate, and incoming freshman Gaven Lane finished in a tie at 154.
The only golfer out of the foursome to perform better Friday was Isakson, who rebounded from a 79 in the opening round with a 75.
The tournament runs through Sunday and is being played on DAC’s Jack Nicklaus-designed Blue Course for the first time in 16 years.
The race for the top spot on the leaderboard was a tight one between Lewisville’s Ryan Grider and Christopher Wheeler of Addison. Grider shot a 7-under 65 in the second round and led Wheeler by one at 8-under 136 heading into Saturday.
It is the seventh Texas Golf Association major championship played at DAC and the third Texas Amateur. The tournament is a showcase of the state’s top amateurs.
