North Texas women’s basketball coach Jalie Mitchell announced the addition of Christopher Minner and Roman Owen to her staff as assistant coaches Saturday.

Minner spent the last decade as the head coach at Our Lady of the Lake, an NAIA program in San Antonio. Owen was an assistant coach at Tulsa last year. The pair replaces Bobby Brasel and Kasondra Foreman.

Brasel left UNT to return to Arkansas-Little Rock, where he worked before joining Mitchell’s staff. Foreman is moving into a new role as UNT’s recruiting coordinator and operations director.

“I feel good about it,” Mitchell said of the new additions. “Both have great experience, have been successful and spent time in Texas.”

Minner posted a 189-45 record at Our Lady of the Lake and guided his team to the semifinals of the NAIA tournament last season. The Saints won the Red River Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles and were ranked No. 12 at the end of the season.

Minner was named the NAIA national coach of the year at Our Lady of the Lake.

“I am so thankful for the belief and confidence that coach Mitchell has in me by bringing me on board,” Minner said in a statement. “I am excited to be a part of this program and can’t wait to get started.”

Owen helped lead Tulsa to the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament last season. He also worked at Yale and was the head coach at Mid-America Christian from 2010-13.

“I’m extremely grateful for this incredible opportunity to work alongside a proven winner in coach Mitchell,” Owen said. “The University of North Texas athletics department has something special going, and my family is ready to be a part of that. I am looking forward to representing the women’s basketball program and competing for championships.”

UNT is coming off one of the best seasons in recent program history, one that saw the Mean Green advance to the championship game of the Women’s Basketball Invitational.

UNT won three games in the event, the first postseason victories beyond a conference tournament in team history. The Mean Green finished 18-16, their second straight winning season under Mitchell, who has quickly turned around a program that endured nine straight losing campaigns before her arrival ahead of the 2015-16 season.{/span}{/span}
