BROCK — Cade Merka had a sacrifice fly and Preston King added an RBI single to spark a three-run second inning that pushed Argyle to a 5-1 win over Stephenville in Game 2 of a Class 4A bi-district playoff series Friday night.

The Eagles completed a sweep in the best-of-three series and moved to 30-1-1. They advance to the area round, where they’ll meet Snyder or Graham next week.

Tate Van Poppel got the win, as he allowed just three hits and one run in four innings of work before Dillon Carter, a Texas Tech signee, threw three scoreless innings to get the save. Carter didn’t allow a hit and finished with three strikeouts.

King was the offensive star for the Eagles as the team’s only player to finish with a multiple hits. King went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Brenden Dixon went 1-for-4 with a run and Alex Gonzales went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Argyle awaits the winner between Snyder and Graham. Graham took Game 1 7-4, and Game 2 will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Graford.

Lake Dallas 10, Grapevine 4

ROCKWALL — Ryan Hull’s two-run double in the bottom of the fifth gave Lake Dallas its first lead, and the Falcons went on to score six runs in the sixth to roll past Grapevine in Game 1 of a best-of-three Class 5A bi-district series.

Hull finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Lake Dallas, while Kyle York went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first that helped the Falcons tie the game at 2. Will Hirneise finished with two RBIs.

Ryan Depperschmidt went 4 2/3 innings and allowed five hits and three runs before Cade McCollum entered the game and tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings to get the victory.

Grapevine starter Alex Vergara got the loss after giving up five runs in five innings.

The Falcons will look to close out the series at advance to the area round with a win in Game 2, set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Rockwall. Game 3, if needed, will be 30 minutes after Game 2.

Aubrey 10, Dallas Carter 0

AUBREY — Aubrey advanced to the area round of the Class 4A playoffs for the third straight season after completing a sweep of Dallas Carter with a shutout in Game 2.

The Chaparrals rolled thanks to a dominant performance from Parker Brogdon on the mound, as Brogdon needed just 64 pitches to get through five innings and rack up seven strikeouts.

Aidan Ryan (3-for-3, two RBIs), Jaxon Holder (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Derek Miller (2-for-2, two RBIs) were the leaders at the plate for Aubrey. The victory pushed the Chaparrals to 18-10.

Aubrey advances to play Sunnyvale next week, with the time and place to be announced.

Van Alstyne 3, Ponder 0

PONDER — Van Alstyne’s Chandler David outdueled Ponder’s Conner Spivey in a low-scoring affair as the Panthers edged the Lions in Game 1 of a Class 3A bi-district series.

David allowed just one hit in throwing a shutout, while Spivey gave up five hits and three runs in the loss. All three of Van Alstyne’s runs came in the fourth, when Zach Smith and David Terrill came through with an RBI apiece.

Ponder will need a win in Game 2 at 11 a.m. Saturday in Anna in order to keep its season alive.

Game 3, if necessary, will be 30 minutes after Game 2.

Sanger, Krum postpone games to Saturday

Sanger postponed its one-game playoff against Dallas Pinkston to 5 p.m. Saturday at Bowie.

Krum, which fell to Godley 3-1 in Game 1, postponed Game 2 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Worth Brewer. Game 3, if needed, will take place 30 minutes after Game 2.
