Nine of the 12 Denton-area baseball teams will compete in the UIL playoffs beginning this week, with Ryan set to open the action in a one-game showdown at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against No. 2 Colleyville Heritage at Dallas Baptist.

The Raiders, who enter the playoffs as a No. 4 seed, are one of three area teams to advance to the postseason out of District 8-5A.

Denton secured the No. 1 seed and the district title in its first year under coach Toby Rumfield while Lake Dallas enters as the No. 3 seed after defeating Ryan in a seeding game on Saturday.

The Broncos will compete in a best-of-three series against Azle at Haslet Eaton. Game 1 is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Game 2 is 7 p.m. Friday and Game 3, if needed, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Lake Dallas will travel to Rockwall for a best-of-three series against Grapevine, which is led by former Denton coach Jimmy Webster. Game 1 is for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Game 2 is at 11 a.m. Saturday and Game 3, if needed, will be 30 minutes after Game 2.

At the Class 6A level, Guyer advanced to the playoffs as the No. 3 seed out of District 5-6A after losing to Keller in a seeding game Saturday. The Wildcats will play Flower Mound in a best-of-three series with Game 1 set for 4 p.m. Friday at Allen and Game 2 set for 4 p.m. Friday at Allen. Game 3, if necessary, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dallas Baptist.

In Class 4A, Sanger — the No. 2 seed out of District 11-4A — will host Dallas Pinkston in a one-game playoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Aubrey, the District 11-4A champion, will host Dallas Carter in a best-of-three series with Game 1 at 7 p.m. Thursday, Game 2 at 7 p.m. Friday and Game 3, if needed, at noon Saturday.

Argyle, the defending 4A state champions and the No. 1 team in the state, will play Stephenville in a best-of-three series at Brock. Game 1 will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Game 2 at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Game 3, if necessary, at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Eagles have won 10 straight playoff games.

Krum — the No. 3 seed out of District 8-4A — will play Godley in a best-of-three series at Fort Worth Brewer with Game 1 at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Game 2 at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Game 3, if needed, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Ponder, which finished fourth in District 9-3A, will play Van Alstyne in a best-of-three series with Game 1 at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ponder. Game 2 will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Anna with Game 3, if necessary, to follow.
