Water damage has temporarily closed the 211th District Courtroom at the Denton County Courts Building in Denton. To help remedy the damage, fans are peppered around the courtroom to encourage airflow.

All cases that are scheduled this week for hearings in the 211th District Courtroom were moved to the 16th District Courtroom, officials at the Denton County Courts Building said Monday, because of water damage over the weekend at the building on McKinney Street.

A district court administrator said nothing on the court’s docket will change, aside from the change in location. All hearings are scheduled to proceed as normal. The 211th District Court is located on the second floor of the Denton County Courts Building, 1450 E. McKinney St.; the 16th District Court is located directly above that courtroom, on the third floor.

Water leaks over the weekend that damaged the courtroom as well as a records office, Court officials said. Denton County Clerk Juli Luke said court records were not damaged by the leaks.

Denton County commissioners are expected to approve the county’s purchase of renovation services for the damaged parts of the building, according to the commissioners’ agenda addendum for their regularly scheduled Tuesday morning meeting.

The courtroom is expected to be operational next Monday.
