Roxanne Vogel on the summit of Iceland's highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur.

Roxanne Vogel, a Texas Woman's University graduate, reached the summit at Mount Everest at around 1 a.m. Wednesday (Central Daylight Time) as part of her attempt to get to the peak and back to California in 14 days.

Vogel, a nutrition and performance research manager for GU Energy Labs in Berkeley, California, left California May 10, and made it to Everest base camp May 13. For the past few days, she had been waiting for a summit window from the top base camp to the 29,029-foot peak.

An experienced climber, she wanted to see if there was a better way to climb Everest than taking a month or more to do so, which is how the trek is traditionally completed.
