Teams of students presented their inventions to judges during Project Invent Demo Day at Stanford University on Saturday.
Two teams in particular, Project Lyra and Project Cape, represented the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science from the University of North Texas.
Each team had worked since September to develop its designs to help people with autism spectrum disorders. Lyra developed a specialized, watch-like device to help streamline interactions with law enforcement.
Cape envisioned a hoodie that would act as a wearable calming device. Pads in the back of the hoodie would increase pressure to create the sensation of being held.
For its efforts, Project Cape received $1,500 to further develop the Helping Hoodie.
