Loop 288

South Loop 288 will be closed at Interstate 35E this weekend so work crews can place the 21 bridge beams needed for the new northbound main lane bridge.

There's really no other way to say it, Denton. Avoid South Loop 288 this weekend.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, crews plan to close the intersection of Loop 288 and Interstate 35E. The intersection will be reopened no later than 6 a.m. Monday, according to a memo Friday to the Denton City Council.

OHL, the contractor widening I-35E from Mayhill Road to the loop, requires the closure in order to place the 21 bridge beams needed for the new northbound main lane bridge.

Construction crews began notifying motorists of the pending closure at least 10 days ago with electronic message boards. In addition, the city has received a notice of the closure, according to Mark Nelson, Denton's director of transportation.

The Texas Department of Transportation has not yet released a detour map.
