First Refuge Ministries added new board and staff members this week.
First Refuge Ministries is a faith-based nonprofit and outreach of First Baptist Church of Denton that offers medical, dental and counseling services and a food pantry.
Three people have been added to the organization's board of directors: Katherine Langley, a rancher; Janie McLeod, who is retired from city of Denton; and Shane Ashford, a family physician. Ashford joined the board after serving as the ministry’s medical director. McLean Sanborn has taken over as the medical director.
The ministry recently announced that it received a collaborative grant with Sanger ISD, the city of Sanger and First Baptist Church of Sanger for $300,000.
Because First Refuge is expanding its services to Sanger, the ministry added four staff members: Michelle Hodgson as the volunteer coordinator; Brittany Rodrigues as the medical assistant; Laura Lanier as a licensed professional counselor, and Christy Daniel as the ministry’s resources navigator. Daniel will work from the Sanger branch.
