Denton residents lacking adequate coverage for mental health care can now receive counseling sessions at Cumberland Youth & Family Services thanks to a grant from the city of Denton.
Qualifying children, teens and adults who are under- or uninsured can receive in-person and online counseling services for as little as $5 per session through the Cumberland Community Counseling Program.
The family services center, which has primarily supported youths in foster care and single-parent families through residential care, counseling and support services, is expanding its existing counseling program to the wider community following grant funding.
“We know, based on the United Way’s 2023 Community Needs Assessment, that access to mental health providers is one of the biggest challenges in our community,” Cumberland CEO Courtney Banatoski said in a news release. “Denton County has one provider to every 750 residents compared to other counties with one provider to every 250 residents. Because of the limited number of providers in Denton County, some of the biggest barriers to accessing mental health services are extensive wait lists or the cost of services.
“Cumberland Youth & Family Services is excited to be part of the solution.”
The program currently does not have a waitlist. To request an appointment, call 940-382-5112 or visit cumberlandservices.org/community-counseling to complete the online request form.
