Domingo Garcia, of Dallas, national president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, will attend the annual scholarship banquet of the Denton Council 4366 of LULAC on April 13. Garcia is a former mayor pro tem of Dallas and a former member of the Texas Legislature.
A total of 28 scholarships worth $30,050 will be awarded to students from four Denton high schools at the banquet at 6 p.m. at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Denton. The scholarship program is a priority for the Denton LULAC chapter and the public is invited to attend the event in support of the program. The mayor of Denton, Chris Watts, also will attend.
The scholarship money is raised locally and supplemented by funds from the national LULAC office in Washington, D.C. Chris Ice is chairman of the Scholarship Committee.
A former scholarship winner, Christian Sotelo, will be the featured speaker. He is a student at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth majoring in biology. He was an active student leader and a tutor at Texas Woman’s University.
