A photo posted on the Denton County Twitter page shows an explosion during the Lake Dallas fireworks show Thursday night.

The Lake Cities fireworks show ended with a bang, and not in a good way.

During Thursday night’s finale, a “malfunction” caused an explosion that injured some people working the fireworks show, according to a Facebook post from the city of Lake Dallas. The post said the explosion happened at around 9:35 p.m.

The city said the people suffered “minor injuries” and that authorities were investigating what caused the explosion.

Officials have not named the vendor, but said that the company has more than 25 years of experience and that this was the second year it ran the Lake Dallas show. Some of the vendor’s equipment used for the show was damaged, the city said.

“Thankfully no one was seriously injured in the blast, but please keep those involved in your thoughts. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and for heeding the fallout zones that were roped off so this did not cause serious injuries to the attendees,” the city wrote on Facebook.

KXAS-TV (NBC5) and The Dallas Morning News contributed to this report.
