We received two separate questions this past week from residents who were also frustrated motorists. Here's a reminder of the basic right-of-way rules that govern the roads when there's no stop or yield sign present:
Prepare to stop. The Texas Transportation Code spells out the right-of-way rules for intersections without signs: you must yield to vehicles already in the intersection or entering before you do. Should two vehicles arrive at the same time, yield if the car is on your right.
If you are approaching a T-intersection, you are required to yield to the through traffic before entering.
This also applies to freeway frontage roads. Even when the signs are not in place, frontage road traffic must yield to exiting cars and trucks on the ramp before proceeding.
