Texas state capitol

North side of the Texas Capitol.

Yes. Legislators will be sworn in at noon Tuesday when the session begins. Legislators typically suspend the rules to allow family members to be on the floor with them during the swearing-in ceremony; otherwise, visitors aren’t allowed on the House or Senate floor itself. The best view is from the gallery one floor above, which is accessible by elevator.

Visitors can park at nearby Capitol Visitors Parking Garage, 1201 San Jacinto St. Parking is free for the first two hours. From there it is a short walk to the Capitol.

The Senate chambers are on the east wing and the House on the west. Some high-ranking members have offices in the main building, but most offices and many committee meeting rooms are in the four-story annex underneath the Capitol. Visitors can also take a self-guided or guided tour to learn more about the history of the building. For more information, call 512-463-0063.
