Tina Jezek, fourth from left, holds a check awarded to Immaculate Conception Catholic School, which earned the Total Community Involvement award for its sustainability work.

Immaculate Conception Catholic School is the recipient of the Total Community Involvement award, beating other Catholic schools from across the country.

The award, which comes with a $1,000 check, is part of the larger Innovations in Catholic Education contest provided by Today's Catholic Teacher magazine.

Representatives from the school plan to put the money toward various sustainability and gardening projects the school has. Projects include a vegetable garden, a greenhouse that is currently under construction and more.

Entrants from Immaculate Conception were the only Texans represented at the conference in Chicago.
