A person walks out of the the Denton Civic Center after voting last spring.

This story has been corrected to reflect that Scott Edwards and Sue Real face challengers in the Krum ISD school board race.

A fresh round of elections is two months away.

On May 4, citizens in Denton County will vote in (or out) office holders on city and town councils and school boards, as well as weigh in on bond propositions that will affect their tax payments.

The filing deadline for the elections was Feb. 15, but the active contest list was not released until Tuesday.

In Denton, the big one to watch is the City Council race for District 3. Incumbent Don Duff has said he won’t run again, opening the door for three candidates to replace him. Matt Farmer, Jesse Davis and Diana Leggett are the three options for Denton voters.

City Council member Keely Briggs goes into the election once again unchallenged, assuring her third and final term as the representative of District 2.

People in Krum will decide the political fate of Scott Edwards, the embattled Krum ISD school board member who allegedly offered to let a parent use an in-district address so her sophomore son could play basketball at Krum.

Edwards and incumbent Sue Real face a challenge from Stephanie Powell and Dave Scheffer.

People voting in Lake Dallas ISD will approve or reject a proposition that would levy a tax to raise $105 million for school facilities.

And in Corinth, voters will consider whether to extend for 10 years its Corinth Crime Control and Prevention District, which also would come with a 10-year sales tax to fund it.
