Several Denton Municipal Electric and CoServ teams brought home honors from the 2018 Texas Lineman Rodeo, held July 21 at Nolte Island, near Seguin.
DME sent two journeyman teams, four apprentice journeyman teams and one BBQ cooking team to participate in the competition.
Tyler Rinck, Garrett Dillard and Curtis Espedal earned second-place overall in the Municipal Division and fifth-place overall in the four different competitive events and challenges.
Clinton Peak, Cody Snider and Blake Schmidt won second-place overall in the No. 2 Mystery Event, fourth-place overall in the Municipal Division and seventh-place overall in the four different competitive events and challenges.
DME apprentices Jordan Padron, Jacob Grey, Mitch Hassell and Gustovo Soto ranked 52nd to 83rd out of 114 contestants.
Layne Freeman and Jason Wilkins took first place with their barbecue brisket. The food they and other contestants prepared was served to rodeo participants during the awards ceremony.
Seven DME employees assisted the competition as volunteer judges.
CoServ sent 19 employees to the rodeo. Rory DeLaTorre, Aaron Armstrong and Mitchell Bridges placed third overall in the journeyman cooperative division and the journeyman "hurt man" rescue, which simulates a lineman rescue with a weighted dummy mounted on a pole.
The Texas Lineman Rodeo provides an opportunity for linemen across the state to meet each other and practice essential skills in a safe environment.
