District wraps up investigation of Denton High volleyball coach; finds no wrongdoing

Denton ISD's Denton High School

Denton High School volleyball coach Gerry Standridge returned to campus Monday after an internal investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing, district officials said.

Denton ISD spokesman Mario Zavala said the district finished an internal investigation into Standridge after reports of unprofessionalism surfaced two weeks ago. Zavala said investigators found no evidence of inappropriate behavior during Standridge's time as the high school's volleyball coach. They also concluded that there were no grounds for removal  based on reports of unprofessional behavior.

Standridge was placed on administrative leave during the investigation, but returned to his post as a special education teacher and coach.

Standridge was named head coach in May 2016 after spending the previous two seasons at Gainesville High School. The Lady Broncos made the postseason for the sixth consecutive year this past season, falling in the bi-district round of the playoffs to Saginaw Boswell to cap a 16-16 season.
