Sally Beauty will close the doors at its Morse Street location by the end of next month.
Denton-based Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. announced Tuesday it would shutter its distribution operations in the city by the end of the second quarter, March 31. The change will impact about two dozen workers who will be reassigned to other positions in the company, said Jeff Harkins, a spokesman for Sally.
“This is not a move about headcount reduction, it’s more about shutting this location down because it’s not a major player in our distribution network,” he said.
Distribution efforts impact only about 20 percent of employees who work at the Morse Street building. The rest of the office space is full of office support staff and contractors. The employees remaining at the building will move to the company’s primary headquarters at 3001 Colorado Blvd.
Sally Beauty officials haven’t decided what they’ll do with the property at 3900 Morse St. after it’s vacated, Harkins said.
The Denton facility is one of three distribution centers Sally is closing this year. As Sally grew and acquired businesses, it kept those company distribution centers, too, Harkins said. Now the company has more than a dozen centers and is trying to cut down.
The move to streamline operations will make way for a new 500,000-square-foot distribution facility for Sally Beauty Supply stores and Beauty Systems Group stores, which are aimed at professional stylists.
The company is looking for a location in Texas to build the site within the next year, and is looking across the North Texas region, Harkins said.
This isn’t the first slim-down at Sally Beauty Holdings has had in recent memory. The company had layoffs at the corporate headquarters in April, although no figures were ever officially announced about how many people were let go.
