Fireworks at Apogee

Whether you decide to participate in a run or watch a parade, there are a variety of themed events happening today to celebrate the Fourth of July in Denton on Thursday.

Some of the main events happening Thursday in Denton include the Yankee Doodle Parade and the Kiwanis Club Fireworks Show at Apogee Stadium.

Below is the full list of local Fourth of July events:

Liberty Run 5K and 1-Mile Walk — Starting at 7:30 a.m., the Liberty Run will start and end at the Denton Civic Center. While advance registration has ended, people can register on the day of the race from 6 to 7 a.m. for $30. For more information, visit dentonparks.com.

Yankee Doodle Parade — Starting in downtown Denton and ending at the Denton Civic Center, this year’s Yankee Doodle Parade will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. The parade will start at the intersection of Locust and Walnut streets before going around the Square once and taking Locust Street to East McKinney Street and ending at the Denton Civic Center.

Fourth of July Jubilee — Also starting at 9 a.m. is the free Fourth of July Jubilee at the Denton Civic Center and Quakertown Park. There will be a hot dog eating contest, kids’ carnival games and more.

Dollar Day at the Pool — If you want to stay cool, head over to the Denton Civic Center Pool, open from noon to 6 p.m., where admission is only a dollar for the Fourth of July.

Denton Kiwanis Club Fireworks Show — Ending the day with fireworks is Denton’s Kiwanis Club, which is hosting a fireworks show at the University of North Texas’ Apogee Stadium. The gates will open at 6 p.m. with live music beginning at 7 p.m. The fireworks show will start after dark at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Admission is free, but parking is $10 a car and donations will be collected for the Kiwanis Club Children’s Clinic. Attendees can park at Fouts Field, the blue lot near Victory Hall and the red lot, the grassy area across South Bonnie Brae Street.

Purses and bags bigger than a clutch will not be allowed, while 12-by-12-inch clear tote bags are allowed, along with diaper bags for families with infants or toddlers. Concessions will be available to purchase.
