DCTA bus

Students get on and off a bus near the intersection of North Texas Boulevard and West Highland Street.

New DCTA transit fares with better discounts for university faculty and staff go into effect Aug. 1.

The new fares eliminate the difference in fare pricing for faculty and staff compared to students, making riding with Denton County Transportation Authority and other transit services more affordable for faculty and staff.

Passes are available per semester at $120 for local rides or $240 for regional, which includes Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Trinity Railway Express and Trinity Metro. The annual pass provides the best deal overall, with full access to DCTA, DART, TRE and Trinity Metro for $576.

On Aug. 1, the cost of an annual regional pass for students increases from $400 to $576. Annual passes purchased before that date will be honored, DCTA officials said.

The fares are available to students, faculty and staff at the University of North Texas, Texas Woman’s University and North Central Texas College. You must provide proof of employment or enrollment at the time of purchase.
