Two siblings’ argument over a gaming console became violent Sunday afternoon at a home in the 3500 block of East McKinney Street, police said.
A 24-year-old woman was playing the console while her 26-year-old brother was outside. When he returned inside, he allegedly became angry with his sister for playing on the console, according to a police report.
She then unplugged the console, at which point her brother allegedly hit her in the face, causing her lip to bleed.
“The suspect was contacted, and he admitted he did get mad after his sister unplugged his game console,” said Lt. Preston Pohler, police spokesman. “When asked about his sister’s injury, the brother said he thinks she was hit by a remote during the altercation.”
At that point, the woman told police, she went into the kitchen and grabbed two kitchen knives to defend herself.
“The victim’s grandmother was home at the time and took the knives from the victim before she left the kitchen,” Pohler said. “No one was threatened with the knives.”
Pohler said the brother and grandmother were listed as residents of the home but the sister was not.
Her brother was arrested on a charge of assaulting a family member with a previous conviction, as well as parole violation.
According to county records, he has previously been arrested on charges of burglary, theft of a firearm, theft of property, trespassing, possession of marijuana and assault on a family member, among other charges.
200 block of Inman Street — Three men were arrested Saturday night on various charges after allegedly being assaulted by an unknown person.
A caller told police that four men were fighting near the front office of the Forum at Denton Station Student Apartments.
When officers arrived, they found three men near a black Honda Civic that was owned by one man’s girlfriend, who was not present. None of the men was listed as a resident of the apartment complex, Pohler said.
They told police an unknown man, who was no longer present, had assaulted them for no reason.
All three men were subsequently arrested on charges unrelated to the alleged assault. An 18-year-old man was charged with possessing Xanax, and a 21-year-old with marijuana possession. Another man, 23, received a public intoxication charge.
Intersection of East McKinney Street and South Woodrow Lane — A 22-year-old man was arrested just after 1 a.m. Saturday following a regular traffic stop.
The driver allegedly exited a private drive without yielding the right of way, causing a police officer to “apply their brakes to avoid a collision with the suspect vehicle,” Pohler said.
After an investigation, the man was arrested on charges of drug possession and driving while intoxicated. According to county jail records, the man faced similar charges in 2017 and 2018.
