About six laundromats and apartment complexes reported on Tuesday that their washing machines and dryers had been vandalized, with some missing money from coin vaults, according to police reports.

The reports came from a business in the 1300 block of Dallas Drive at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Westminister Street at about 9 a.m., two properties in the 200 block of East University Drive, a property in the 400 block of East University Drive and an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Teasley Lane, according to the police report.

The coin vaults were stolen from some of the coin-operated appliances.

Victim of I-35 crash identified

Authorities say Monica Mendez, 28, of Denton was the person killed in a Sunday morning vehicle crash in the 4400 block of Interstate 35.

Denton police said a Nissan Z traveling south on I-35 flipped near U.S. Highway 380 on Sunday morning. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said Mendez died from colliding with a fixed object after the vehicle rolled over.

200 block of West Prairie Street A man was cited and released after police found a methamphetamine pipe in his pocket Tuesday night, according to a police report.

Police were called to the area because a property owner wanted the man removed from the property. Police said the man willingly left the property and was not given a criminal trespass warning. They cited him for possession of drug paraphernalia, took his pipe and let him leave, police said.

700 block of West University Drive The driver’s-side rear window of a Cadillac Escalade was broken out, according to a police report filed Tuesday afternoon. Nothing was reported stolen, police said.

  • The Denton Police Department handled 183 service and officer-initiated calls and made 10 arrests.
  • Denton firefighters responded to 31 medical calls and three vehicle crashes.
