Students compete in soccer matches between GOAL program participants and their family members in 2016. The GOAL Program hosted one of its annual events, Copa Familia, at Calhoun Middle School Saturday. Copa Familia is a bonding event for children, parents and the community.

Following several postponements, the seventh-annual Copa Familia soccer tournament is expected to kick off this Saturday at Calhoun Middle School, 709 Congress St.

Guys and Girls Operating as Leaders organized the tournament.

Originally scheduled for Feb. 23, the tournament repeatedly was delayed because of inclement weather.

Soccer teams from across North Texas will compete in what organizers call the largest parent/child soccer tournament in the region. The first game begins at 8 a.m., and the final match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Concessions and merchandise will be available for purchase during the event. For additional information, contact GOAL organizers at dentongoal@gmail.com.
