Thousands of Denton residents experienced a quick power outage when there was a problem with the Hickory substation Monday afternoon.

Power was out from 2:32 to 2:48 p.m. for 3,975 customers, including the University of North Texas, said Jessica Rogers, a spokeswoman for the city.

The interruption did not impact classes or any other functions of the university, UNT spokeswoman Leigh Anne Gullett said.

Denton Municipal Electric does not yet know what happened to cause the interruption, Rogers said Monday afternoon.
