Nearly a full pound of methamphetamine was laying on the ground when officers arrived at the scene Saturday night.
Police were called to the intersection of Intersection 35E and South Bonnie Brae Street after 9 p.m. when callers said a man at the location appeared to be in distress.
Officers found the drugs near an unoccupied, wrecked vehicle. When they found a 52-year-old man nearby and tried to speak with him, the man ran in the highway in an escape attempt.
“During the foot pursuit, the suspect stopped, turned and advanced on an officer while holding a knife before fleeing again,” said Khristen Jones, spokeswoman for the police.
After officers caught up to the man, and he refused to comply with their orders, he was shot with a stun gun, according to the report.
“The suspect then complied and stated both the vehicle and the methamphetamine were his,” Jones said.
He was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance — which he allegedly had 451 grams of — aggravated assault of a public servant, evading arrest and obstructing the highway.
Jones said the man did not appear to be under the influence during the interaction.

When officers arrived, the woman was able to get a hold of her 8-year-old son via his cell phone.
The boy had ridden his bicycle roughly three miles away in an effort to reach his grandparents house.
“He was able to provide officers with his location and was then picked up and driven back to his home,” Jones said. “Officers spoke with the son about the dangers of leaving home alone.”
The boy was unharmed.

Officers arrived to find two 19-year-old men arguing with a 33-year-old man over an unknown dispute. All three men, as well as a witness, confirmed that no weapon was involved, but the men said they had been fighting.
“While officers were on the scene, the three parties began to get into a second physical altercation,” Jones said.
It is not clear how the younger men knew the other person involved. All three men lived in the complex. Each was arrested on a charge of fighting in public.
