While dealing with a reported noise complaint in the 1500 block of Meadow Street, officers heard roughly half a dozen gunshots Saturday evening.
Officers left the complex pool at the CastleRock at Denton Apartments to a nearby apartment building, where they found several shell casings and bullet holes in a building.
Police reports did not list what sort of rounds had been fired or what gun they might have been fired from, nor is it clear exactly what kind of damage the apartment building sustained.
Allison Vetere, police spokeswoman, said she couldn’t speculate as to whether anybody had been targeted by the gunfire, but the incident is being investigated as deadly conduct.
She said it isn’t clear if the noise disturbance at the pool was related to the nearby gunfire. Police interviewed numerous witnesses on the scene, Vetere said, but no arrests were made.
Intersection of East McKinney Street and North Loop 288 — Police found a 52-year-old man pulling wires off a telephone pole outside a 7-Eleven late Saturday evening.
According to police and county records, the man was previously trespassed from the area in 2018, though it is not clear why.
Police records do not show why the man was pulling the wires off or whether any repairs were necessary to the telephone pole. He was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass, and employees told police they intend to press charges.
2200 block of South Interstate 35E — An 88-year-old man called police Saturday evening to report he’d been assaulted near the Golden Triangle Mall.
“The caller reported that an unknown suspect struck his shoulder with an open hand for no apparent reason,” Vetere said.
Vetere said the man provided a description of the suspect, but she declined to release the description, citing the ongoing investigation. It is not clear if the man was slapped or pushed in the shoulder, but he said it hurt and he nearly fell over.
No arrests were made.
