A woman told police Wednesday she paid about $2,700 in deposits and rent earlier this month to lease a property that was not for rent, according to a police report.
While Denton police have not said the two cases are related, the woman’s theft came about two weeks before a man told police about paying money for a rental property only to find somebody was already living in it.
The woman told police the theft happened on July 11. The property in question is in the 2000 block of Woodbrook Street, the report shows.
She said someone posing as a landlord required her to pay with multiple money orders for rent and security deposits.
2600 block of Mingo Road — A man told police he was struck in the head by a man Wednesday night who got out of his vehicle and hit him with a blunt object, according to a police report.
The victim was found with lacerations on his face and hand and a swollen lip. The man was bleeding when police arrived. Officers spotted blood spots along the sidewalk, the report shows.
The report did not have a description of the suspect’s vehicle nor of the person.
Congress Street and Carroll Boulevard — A bicyclist collided with a Chevrolet pickup around noon Thursday, according to a police report.
Police said the bicyclist and the pickup’s driver exchanged the proper insurance information as the bicyclist left the scene before police arrived.
