Journalist Maya Rao will talk about her new book, Great American Outpost: Dreamers, Mavericks and the Making of an Oil Frontier, at the University of North Texas on Tuesday.

Rao followed the transformation of the North Dakota countryside as hydraulic fracturing made the northern state the nation's second largest producer of oil behind Texas.

Rao is currently a correspondent in Washington, D.C., for the Minneapolis Star Tribune

The talk begins at 5 p.m. in Room 110 of the Environmental Education, Science & Technology Building, at the corner of Avenue C and Hickory Street.
