Argyle resident Joseph Peacock, 50, died following a single-vehicle car crash in the 5100 block of Dakota Lane early Wednesday afternoon in Denton.

Denton dispatchers received a report of a crash at 12:18 p.m. Both Denton police and fire responded and found a vehicle that had struck a utility pole on the east side of the roadway, according to a city news release.

Officials said a preliminary investigation determined the vehicle involved was a black, custom-built, two-seat car patterned after the 1965 Shelby Cobra. The car was northbound when it left the road and struck the pole.

Peacock was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, according to the police report. He was taken by ambulance with critical injuries to a local hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

Investigators have not determined why the vehicle left the roadway or whether speed was a factor in the crash.

Officials noted the wreck was the third fatal motor vehicle crash this year in Denton.
