Some exciting changes are coming to the Denton Record-Chronicle’s Friday Religion page, ushered in over the past month as we seek to expand and improve our faith-based coverage.
Following months of discussions, these changes are being made in an effort to better connect with the entirety of the Record-Chronicle’s readership. One’s faith is such an intimate and personal journey, we felt it important that our weekly Religion page grow so that over the course of time every reader finds his or her story reflected in our coverage.
For starters, we have expanded the number of local faith leaders who will be regularly contributing columns each week. You’ve already seen contributions from Rabbi Geoffrey Dennis, with Congregation Kol Ami in Flower Mound; the Rev. Donna Dolham, with the Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship; and the Rev. Craig Hunter, with Trinity Presbyterian Church in Denton. A half-dozen or more additional faith leaders in our community are expected to contribute, including one of the fathers profiled in today’s Father’s Day story, senior pastor Brad Cockrell, with Southmont Baptist Church.
In addition to being more inclusive of our community’s many faiths and religions, our hope is that by providing a larger number of voices and perspectives, we can help foster better bridges among the faiths as we learn more about each other, leading to a tighter community.
At the same time, one’s faith is a critical ballast against the changing and chaotic seas we so often encounter in modern society. If we can provide additional opportunities to strengthen that faith, our community will be better for it.
Toward that end, we also will be pursuing additional local coverage to appear on our Religion page exploring different segments of our faith community or dissecting timely issues or topics through the lens of faith.
As we try to mold our weekly Religion content to better match your interests and viewpoints, we invite you to join the conversation already begun within our faith community. What more can we do to improve our Religion page? What do you think of the changes already made? Let us know by commenting on the content, either through our website (DentonRC.com) or via our Facebook page or Twitter account.
As well, if you would like to join our team of contributors, either through a regular column or one-off essay, please contact me through the email address or telephone number listed below. We’d also like to hear from you about potential stories to pursue for the Religion page.
We’re excited about what lies ahead for the Record-Chronicle’s Religion page. We look forward to your input as we build a page that represents all of you.
