FOURTH OF JULY EVENTS
THURSDAY, JULY 4
7:30 a.m. — Liberty Run 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run starting at the Denton Civic Center, 321 E. McKinney St. $25 in advance. Race day registration is $30 from 6 to 7 a.m. Visit www.dentonparks.com.
9 a.m. — Fourth of July Yankee Doodle Parade, from the corner of Hickory and Locust streets on the Square to the Denton Civic Center. Parade staging begins at 8 a.m. on Locust Street between Walnut and Sycamore streets, and judging begins at 8:30 a.m. on South Locust between Walnut and Sycamore streets. 9 a.m. to noon — Free Fourth of July Jubilee family fun and games at Quakertown Park and the Civic Center, 321 E. McKinney St. Adult horseshoe tournament, children’s carnival games, a hot dog eating contest and more. Visit www.dentonparks.com.
Noon to 6 p.m. — $1 admission at Denton Civic Center Pool, 515 N. Bell Ave.
6 p.m. — Gates open for the Denton Kiwanis Club Fireworks Show at UNT’s Apogee Stadium, 1251 S. Bonnie Brae St. There will be concessions available for purchase and a kids’ activity area and live bands leading up to the fireworks display after dark, about 9:30 p.m. General admission is free, but parking is $10 per car. Donations benefit the Denton Kiwanis Children’s Clinic and other youth services. No bags or containers larger than a small clutch bag, except for a child’s diaper bag. Visit dentonkiwanisclub.org.
