Writer and culture critic Roxane Gay will be the first speaker in this year's Mary Jo and V. Lane Rawlins Fine Arts Series at the University of North Texas.

Gay has penned several national bestsellers, including Bad Feminist and Hunger: A Memoir of My Body. She's also the author of Marvel's World of Wakanda and a regular contributor to The New York Times.

The event is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at the UNT Coliseum. Tickets are free for students, $5 for student guests, $10 for staff, faculty and alumni and $20 for the general public at UNTuniontickets.com.

After Gay's talk, she will conduct a book signing in the Barnes and Noble inside of the UNT Union.
