Mark McLellan, the vice president of research and graduate studies at Portland State University, will be the next vice president of research and innovation at the University of North Texas.
McLellan will start in the position Sept. 16 and will oversee expanding UNT's research in conjunction with the provost. He also will be responsible for overseeing the strategic plan for research.
“Dr. McLellan’s leadership will be critical as our university solidifies our reputation as a Tier One research university, and I am grateful he has agreed to bring his extensive knowledge and expertise to this leadership role at UNT,” UNT President Neal Smatresk said in a news release. “Dr. McLellan is a highly experienced leader in higher education and has extensive experience at major research institutions, and we have found him to be incredibly insightful and collaborative."
