Kathryn Childers, one of the first five female U.S. Secret Service agents, will be the first speaker in a new lecture series at Texas Woman's University.

The Nancy P. and Thaddeus E. Paup Lecture Series will start with Childers on Thursday, Sept. 19, thanks to a donation from the Paups. The series is hosted through the Institute for Women's Leadership.

Childers will talk about her life story and encourage attendees to own the things that scare them, which she considers the first step to courage.

The new lecture series will also hold an event in the spring, which will be announced at the inaugural event.

The event is free and open to the public and includes a complimentary breakfast. It will be held at 7:30 a.m. at Ashton Gardens, 2001 Ashton Gardens Lane in Corinth. Advance registration is required at https://bit.ly/2H1MNTx.
