Krum High School student Avery Mayhue recently won first place in Family Career and Community Leaders of America’s “Say Yes to FCS” competition during a conference in Anaheim, California.

Back to School Fair set for Aug. 10

United Way of Denton County is gearing up for the second Denton Back to School Fair on Aug. 10. The nonprofit has a goal of equipping 4,000 students with free school supplies this year. That will require roughly $20,000 in donations from individual and corporate donors.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of North Texas Gateway Center.

Junior wins top prize in national FCCLA contest

Avery Mayhue, who will be a junior at Krum High School in the fall, won a gold medal during a national competition.

The Family Career and Community Leaders of America’s 2019 National Conference took place June 30-July 4 in Anaheim, California.

Mayhue competed against students from across the country to win a gold medal in the “Say Yes to FCS” category. She prepared a portfolio, conducted classroom observations and more.

The 2018-19 school year was her first being involved with FCCLA. She was taught by Vanessa Salazar and Camella Weedon.
