Beta Club Convention a success for Aubrey

More than 30 Aubrey high school students competed in the annual Texas Senior State Club Convention on Feb. 1-2 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine.

Of the 30 who competed, 11 students ranked among the top three contenders in their category, earning them each a spot at the national competition to be held in Oklahoma this June.

Freshmen and sophomores competed in Division I, while juniors and seniors competed in Division II.

First-place winners from Aubrey High School were:

Division I — Jonathan Householder, math; Brody Cross, social studies; and the engineering team of Kathimae Dow, Morgan Place, Hanna Travascio and Lauren Strittmatter.

Division II — Mark Mayes for woodworking and as a member of the engineering team; and Amos Perkins in language arts and poetry.

15 advance to FCCLA state conference

Of the 22 Aubrey high school students to compete in the regional Family, Career and Community Leaders of America conference last week, 15 will advance to the state conference.

To advance, the students had to place within the top five ranks in their chosen category.

Mallory Boyer won first place in the fashion construction competition, Madeline Sterling came in second in the same category, and Jianna Garcia won first place in the Toys That Teach junior competition.

Alex Kubicek and Addison Ivy won first place in the Toys That Teach senior team event.
