Professor Anupama Kaul recently received a three-year grant from the Office of Naval Research to develop more cost-efficient solar panels.

The $474,000 grant will allow Kaul to study perovskite, a flexible mineral that is highly efficient at converting solar energy into electricity.

The material has so far been too unstable for widespread use. Grant money will hopefully enable Kaul to discover a way to reliably use the material, which might make solar panels cheaper and more efficient.
