Elia S. Tamplin, a doctoral candidate studying multicultural women's and gender studies at Texas Woman's University, won a student research award from the National Academic Advising Association.

The award recognizes Tamplin's presentation, "Research on Women-of-Color Professional Experiences in Higher Education," and comes with a plaque and one-year membership to the association. The award will be formally presented during NACADA's annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky, in October.

Tamplin's research studied the experiences and roles of women of color who work in public higher education in Texas as academic advisers.
